Jægersborggade: Copenhagen's Sustainability Street

Jægersborggade is, ironically, one of Copenhagen’s trendiest streets, although its shops serve to be sustainable rather than trend-led (although there’s no denying that sustainability itself has become a trend—who knows if the buzz will disappear next season). Here you’ll find shops like LØS Market, a bulk market that’s packaging-free and eco-friendly; alongside a handful of independent coffee shops and plant-based cafés, upcycled and environmentally-conscious clothing shops, organic and cruelty-free beauty, Danish design and print, handmade ceramics and more. You could quite happily live off this street and never have to source elsewhere.

Some of Copenhagen’s best brews and juices live at The Sixteen Twelve, and you’ll find a sustainable skincare pharmacy inside apparel shop My Favourite Things. They have a range of vegan, organic and cruelty-free beauty products for any skin type, and the staff will be happy to offer you samples and guidance on what will work for you.

You can find an array of gifts for loved ones at gågrøn!, indulge in some Danish fine jewellery from Ladyfingers, shop second-hand at the treasure trove that is Mødrehjælpen Nørrebro, buy prints from local artists at Vanishing Point, recharge in Coffee Collective, or try on a handful of well-made, new season pieces in Tricotage.

Don’t be shy to strike up a conversation with any of the shopkeepers along this street: all are very friendly, welcoming and replete with local knowledge. Ask politely enough and they may well point you to their favourite bakery (sacred, this is a coveted level of trust) or brunch spot.
